UX Designer

Novel Effect is voice driven entertainment that makes storytelling a magical experience. Our platform uses voice recognition to sync special effects, theme music, and character voices in real time with a storyteller’s voice, creating a sensory-immersive experience kids and families love. Novel Effect is on the cutting edge of the voice driven movement and currently available as an iOS app with plans for immediate expansion onto a variety of other platforms.

The Role:
Novel Effect seeks a talented UX designer to join our growing team of passionate and creative people, in Seattle, WA. This candidate will use design thinking to create engaging, intuitive, and functional experiences in a detail-oriented and fast paced environment. This position will work across all departments and services and will interact directly with all levels in the organization including senior management.

The ideal candidate is capable of collaborating with other team members to gather requirements, research user needs, and conduct user testing. They will apply an understanding of how UX concerns and requirements differ between platforms, devices, and channels. In day-to-day activities they will create conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, click-throughs, prototypes, and design-level prototypes. Additional duties may include researching user needs and conducting user testing.

Our Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong portfolio or minimum 3-5 years experience as a user experience or user interface designer
  • Displays strategic, conceptual and associative thinking, and the ability to translate this thinking into compelling designs
  • Solid understanding and demonstration of user-centered design principles across various platforms, devices, and channels
  • Proficiency with design software and prototyping tools such as Sketch, InVision, Zeplin, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.
  • Understanding web and mobile technologies, including HTML/CSS
  • Strong creative, organizational, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, specifically in regards to articulating design concepts and decisions
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to multitask
  • A sharp eye for design elements and fundamentals
  • Excitement about emerging technologies, especially in the interactive and voice recognition fields
  • Can excel under tight turn-around and deadlines. Improves with constructive feedback
  • Electronic file-keeping - consistently and accurately document and archive projects
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in a collaborative team environment
  • Alignment with core Novel Effect values of innovation, caring, loyalty, integrity, commitment and understanding in a fun, fast-paced work environment

Optional, but helpful preferred traits:
