Ashoka U - Research Assistant & Content Developer

In 2008, Ashoka, the world's largest network of social entrepreneurs, launched Ashoka U. Ashoka U supports a global network of colleges and universities dedicated to creating a new norm in higher education that enables a flourishing society. After three decades of working with leading social entrepreneurs (over 3,000 in 70 countries), Ashoka realized that far more changemakers were needed to become the architects of a sustainable and flourishing society, thus inspiring Ashoka U. 
Ashoka U is looking for a fun, dedicated, innovative intern to work in the Ashoka Global office as a Research Assistant & Content Developer during the spring 2019 semester. We seek interns for a minimum duration of eight to ten weeks, but preferably 16-20. Applications are open on a rolling basis, with a preference for a December selection and January start. 

Research Assistant & Content Developer
Support the Ashoka U Changemaker Campus program, through research, analysis, and content development. Your job will be to conduct research and develop content related to the need for, impact of, and leading models and practices in social innovation and changemaking in higher education. Tasks may include: 
  • Conduct research and catalog studies and other evidence supporting the need for and impact of social innovation and changemaking in higher education to help make a case for “changemaking” on campus
  • Review documents and websites to identify, catalog, and/or update database of leading educational practices and ecosystem components
  • Edit, create, and/or support dissemination of educational materials (e.g., handbook, case studies, workshop or presentation slides, etc.) featuring campus practices, how-tos, and/or examples
  • Research, analyze, and segment the portfolio of Changemaker Campuses and/or their practices
  • Make website edits
  • Develop newsletter(s) and other communications
  • Conduct other research, analysis, and writing as required (e.g., higher education statistics, developments, and trends; benchmarking or best in class studies; leadership development models and programs; etc.)

Interest/experience: Keen sense of curiosity and desire to learn; strong research and analysis skills; ability to mine, document, and synthesis large amounts of data; ability to identify and communicate models, frameworks, and trends; strong written and oral communication skills; strong organizational and project management skills; competent in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experience encouraged, but not required: experience developing communications and educational products and messages; graphic design experience with Adobe Creative Suiteplatforms (Illustrator and/or lnDesign), Canva, Word Press, dotmailer, etc. 
Ashoka U interns join the nine Ashoka U staff as key members of the Ashoka U team. They will work closely with the team and have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative group environment.
 
In addition, interns have responsibility for a specific project. Interns spend approximately 70% of their time on individual projects, 20% of time on Ashoka U team projects, and 10% of time on Ashoka-wide collaborations. Interns will be located in the Ashoka Global Office in Arlington, VA (although we are willing to consider a virtual role). Unfortunately, we are unable to offer financial compensation for internships.
