The incumbent will serve as the Division Director and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing product compliance testing and/or developing new or improved test methods, and ensuring such work is conducted in accordance with the applicable regulations and requirements under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, Federal Hazardous Substances Act, Consumer Product Safety Act, and the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. The incumbent shall fulfill these responsibilities in the following specific ways:

Supervising and assigning work to scientific professionals and technical support staff members. Ensuring milestones and other annual operating plan commitments for LSC are met.

  1. Closely monitors and coordinates technical support efforts and testing needs with the CPSC Offices of Compliance and Import Surveillance for regulated product testing and ensures priority samples are completed to meet agency performance goals and internal customer needs.
  2. Coordinating the exchange of professional research and testing information with universities, laboratories of other Federal agencies and independent laboratories.
  3. Directing scientific research, analysis and testing associated with imminent hazards, substantial product hazards and banned hazardous substances.
  4. Developing budget projections for the Division and its elements throughout the Directorate and monitoring funds for approved budgets.
  5. Overseeing design, development and maintenance of laboratory equipment and facilities as well as the training and technical direction of personnel in the proper and safe use of these devices.
  6. Directing efforts to maintain repair and improve Laboratory storage and testing areas to ensure proper operation and the safety and security of personnel.
