Interconnection Fellow

Distributed Sun (DSUN) is seeking an Interconnection Fellow with postgraduate-level coursework in utility interconnection processes and/or electricity grid integration. The Fellow will work on special projects pertaining to current and future ventures in DSUN’s pipeline and will learn the dynamics of the interconnection and integration of renewable energy systems into the larger electricity grid. The Fellow will help conduct due diligence on interconnection requirements, work with available power flow cases to model and assess interconnection viability, and prepare high-level guidance for DSUN’s engineering team regarding cost and design considerations for DSUN’s projects. The right candidate will be entrepreneurial, a team player, and able to learn independently and on the job. A strong applicant will be able to communicate their strengths, their weaknesses, and the method by which they will improve over the duration of the internship. The Interconnection Fellow will work with the Engineering and Operations teams.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research interconnection policies governing projects in DSUN’s pipeline
  • Utilize power flow modeling software to perform preliminary interconnection viability analysis
  • Assist in the evaluation and negotiation of interconnection study findings
  • Create and maintain a dynamic database of interconnection guidance for DSUN’s engineering team
 
Requirements
  • Education: Completed or pursuing a graduate degree or PhD in renewable energy engineering, transmission and distribution engineering, or related field
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required; VBA is a plus
  • Experience with power flow analysis software, such as products from EasyPower, ETAP, or Eaton, is required
  • Robust written and verbal communication skills with an aptitude for working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interest in the renewable industry
 
Compensation
Commensurate with education and practical experience.
 
Location
Remote for applicants based outside of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Potential for in-person at DSUN’s D.C. headquarters.
