Project Finance and Development Fellow

Distributed Sun (DSUN) is seeking a Project Finance and Development Fellow with undergraduate- or postgraduate-level coursework in finance and accounting. The Fellow will work on special projects pertaining to current and future ventures in DSUN’s pipeline and will learn the dynamics of project finance and development in the renewable energy industry. The Fellow will help conduct due diligence on projects, create and verify project financial model assumptions, draft investor memorandums, work on Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and research potential projects and partnerships in the renewable energy industry. The right candidate will be entrepreneurial, a team player, and able to learn independently and on the job. A strong applicant will be able to communicate their strengths, their weaknesses, and the method by which they will improve over the duration of the internship. The Project Finance and Development Fellow will work with the Operations team.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collect, evaluate, and interpret data in both statistical and narrative form
  • Assist with industry research as the company grows into new markets
  • Assist in the creation of presentations to clients and potential clients
  • Utilize strong analytical skills and understanding of relevant financial, mathematical, and accounting techniques
  • Model and modify financial models according to requirements
  • Work with team members on other administrative, development, and operational functions
 
Requirements
  • Education: Completed or pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field. Master of Finance (MSF), Master of Accountancy (MACCY), or MBAs preferred. Preferred coursework: Project Finance, Accounting, and/or Energy Policy
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is required
  • Experience with programming languages, especially Python, is a plus
  • Robust written and verbal communication skills with an aptitude for working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interest in the renewable industry
 
Compensation
Commensurate with education and practical experience.
 
Location
Remote for applicants based outside of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Potential for in-person at DSUN’s D.C. headquarters.
