Environmental Specialist II (Remediation Geologist) – P0447
Woodbridge, Virginia
Minimum Starting Salary: $50,696
 
The Northern Regional Office is seeking a qualified applicant to receive and process incoming reports of leaking underground and aboveground storage tanks and advise the public of regulatory requirements relating to petroleum storage tanks. Directs responsible persons to proceed in accordance with technical standards, state regulations and established procedures. Reviews release investigations; reviews reports of hydrogeologic investigations; makes recommendations concerning remediation and corrective action of subsurface petroleum releases based on risk to receptors. Reviews monitoring results. Investigates reports of petroleum-contaminated water supplies and performs field inspections. Writes technical memoranda and correspondence. Enters detailed tracking information into databases and spreadsheets.
 
Qualifications: Must have strong technical writing skills and excellent oral communication skills. Strong computer and keyboarding skills are essential. Knowledge, skills and abilities in hydrogeology; geology; groundwater/leaking UST remediation; chemistry; knowledge of federal/state/local laws and regulations governing petroleum releases; environmental science and engineering; groundwater computer modeling; groundwater pollution assessment; oral and written communications; project management; PC database operations.
 
Qualifications preferred but not required: Bachelor’s Degree in hydrogeology, geology, or environmental science, or related field. A combination of education, experience, and training may substitute for a degree.
