Location: The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, San Diego Region has an opening for a temporary Graduate Student Assistant in the Surface Waters Branch. The position is located in the Mission Valley community of San Diego at 2375 Northside Drive, San Diego, 92108, near light rail, freeways, and restaurants.
Duties: Create an inventory of National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit monitoring requirements with information capable for Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping, including the latitude and longitude of monitoring stations for influent, effluent, receiving water, sediment, and special studies.
Create an inventory of water quality violations of effluent limitations and receiving water quality standards with information capable for GIS mapping.
Receive, track, inventory, and log discharger self-monitoring and technical report submittals. Assist in the review of monitoring reports and other technical reports to assess compliance with applicable NPDES permit requirements, enforcement orders, and federal and state water quality laws policies and regulations. Enter information and index documents in the Enterprise Content Management system (ECM) to ensure proper linkage to the Storm Water Multiple Application and Report Tracking System (SMARTS) and the California Integrated Water Quality System (CIWQS) databases. Review data and troubleshoot errors within the database system and generate reports using the SMARTS and CIWQS databases. Create and modify Microsoft (MS) Word documents, MS Excel spreadsheets and GIS files related to program support.
Assist with office-wide duties such as file cleanups, uploading and indexing documents, preparing for Board Meetings, and other duties as required.
