Minimum Starting Salary: $63,219– Negotiable Based on Experience
 
The Department of Environmental Quality, Policy Division seeks a highly qualified candidate to assist in the development of the agency’s water policy initiatives and coordinate the agency’s policy efforts and legislative processes related to stormwater and erosion and sediment control and its programs.
 
Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess experience evaluating water laws and regulations and identifying opportunities for improvements and program implementation options, environmental policy analysis, program assessment, and project management; knowledge of state and federal environmental laws and regulations, particularly water laws and regulations. Key competencies include:
 
  • Ability to learn and organize complex information quickly
  • Background working with, and leading, diverse groups in developing policies and evaluating program options
  • Experience with environmental policy, legal analysis, and program development
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental laws, particularly Virginia programs dealing with water quality and management
  • Experience with Virginia’s state legislative and regulatory process
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with elected officials, senior corporate officials, high-level public officials, advocacy organizations, legal counsel, and the public
 
Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from a college or university with considerable coursework in public administration, government or environmental science, or related field. Advanced degree in law, public policy, or equivalent experience preferred. Equivalent training/experience may substitute for a degree.
