The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is hiring a grants officer for our Financial Division located at our State Office in Boise. This position develops, manages, and monitors federal grants to ensure DEQ complies with and remains eligible for federal funds. This position also manages DEQ’s Waste Management and Remediation federal grants and cooperative agreements.

Salary
$22.36 - $25.00 Hourly
$46,508.80 - $52,000.00 Annually


Example of Duties:

  • Serve as a liaison between DEQ and funding agency staff by meeting grant deadlines, ensuring timely and effective communication between entities, and resolving any grant-related issues.
  • Coordinate budget development with DEQ programs and fiscal staff, including tracking grant expenditures, participating in quarterly budget reviews, and resolving internal grant-related issues.
  • Help develop work plans and budgets as part of federal assistance proposals, applications, and reports.
  • Document and complete all grant requirements to ensure compliance with administrative and programmatic conditions, including compiling, routing, submitting, and returning documents, amendments, and assurances to the appropriate funding entity.
  • Maintain and manage electronic grant folders in the file database.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: developing grants or contracts including identifying goals and timetables and determining program needs and funding; monitoring and evaluating grant or contract activities and expenditures; interpreting laws, regulations, and policies and advising on their requirements; evaluating statistical and financial information and developing reports of findings.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for 2-4 hours at a time
  • Ability to reach and bend for filing purposes
  • Some periods of heavy reading and typing required
  • Some travel may be required
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • OTHER: At times, there is prolonged and intense exposure to stress during high level negotiations and/or appeals, hearings and challenges to awards. A computer is an essential tool for this position due to the necessity of accessing the Fiscal accounting and electronic filing system, along with generating documents such as grant applications and associated appendices.
