Policy Analyst

Sol Systems is seeking an Analyst to join our Policy team in our Washington DC office. This is an entry-level position, although the ideal candidate will have some previous work experience (related field not required) and a strong interest in clean energy, specifically solar, and public policy. This is a great opportunity to work for a national solar energy firm and gain exposure to public policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support active policy team of three in regulatory, legislative, and judicial tracking at the state and federal level.
  • Manage automated tracking tools, with increasing responsibility for filtering by importance to Sol (we’ll teach you that; you just bring an eagerness to learn)
  • First line of response to internal queries on regulatory and legislative status and requirements
  • Write preliminary summaries of state and federal actions, such as Public Utility Commission orders, state/federal rules, and state/federal legislation
  • Primary point of contact for scheduling calls, meetings, and testimony for team
  • Primary note-taker and task management for team
  • Other duties as needed in support of Policy and broader External Affairs team

Required Skills: The ideal candidate is a self-starter, resourceful, and capable of managing multiple ongoing projects as well as prioritizing new developments in real time. They are also inquisitive, proficient in verbal and written communication, and team-oriented. 

A successful candidate will possess the following competencies, skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related subject preferred (such as environmental studies, political science, environmental economics, public policy, etc.)
  • Experience in scheduling, task completion, team management
  • Ability to organize and track open tasks to completion
  • Able to travel approximately 10% of the time, as public health allows
  • Resourceful and able to identify solutions and make recommendations to internal teams
  • Able to develop written work products that are thoughtful, organized, and audience-appropriate
  • Willingness to ask questions and grow role in team
  • Ability to recognize when to ask for help and how to identify appropriate resources to accomplish tasks as needed

Location & Hours: This is a full-time role and will be based in our Washington, DC office.
