Energy Supply Sector Data Analytics Student Engineer

Join EPRI’s digitalization group’s monitoring and advanced analytics program for the summer of 2025. The program leverages data analytics and machine learning approaches for power plant asset monitoring, diagnostics, and prognostics for improved reliability and efficiency.

The summer internship experience provides a technical mentor, training, and social and professional networking opportunities in addition to guided project-focused research work. This unique setting will provide students with rare, but essential practical insight to industry problems and issues and improve links to academic coursework. Other development and social activities in prior years have included:

  • Lunch and learns with past interns, and current EPRI employees
  • Team building activities, for example a trip to the National Whitewater Center
  • Tours of local power generation facilities
  • EPRI lab tours
  • Final presentations by summer student internship employees to their peers, mentors and other EPRI technical staff

Key activities may include:

  • Conduct research and analysis on the assigned topics in collaboration with SMEs across EPRI’s wide ranging programs in Energy Supply sector.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of monitoring and diagnostic systems.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and improve project performance.
  • Document findings and present recommendations.
  • Research on background material/data for the assigned tasks.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master of Science program in Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Thorough understanding of the demands associated with technical rigor.
  • Experience with monitoring or diagnostic projects, either through coursework or research.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate would possess at least some of the following preferred qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of power sector and systems operations.
  • Experience with data analysis, technical presentation and writing skills as this role involves developing rigorously reviewed deliverables.
  • Basic knowledge of power system engineering,
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Programming knowledge of Python, MATLAB, or R.
  • Excellent research and writing skills; strong oral communications skills; ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • A positive attitude, comfortable working both collaboratively and independently.
