Water Chestnut – Hand Pulling - SUMMER JOB?
The Onondaga County Soil and Water Conservation District is seeking Seasonal Aides to assist with field work this summer.
- Join the team that is assisting Onondaga County with the hand pulling of Water Chestnut on the Seneca River (and potentially other locations). This work is of a physical nature but very rewarding. Other duties as assigned.
- Must be comfortable with doing field work close to 100% of the time
- Must be able to identify Water Chestnut (training provided)
- Must be able to swim and complete a lifeguard recertification swimming test at local pool (preference given to folks with a certification card). (Test = swim 300 yards using front crawl or breast stroke w/ breathing; swim 20 yards, submerge to 12 ft depth, recover 10 lb. brick and return swim 20 yds; swim 15 yds underwater; and tread water for 2 minutes).
- Must have extreme attention to detail and safety (CPR, AED, and First Aid training provided, as well as boater certification & NYS DEC 4 hr Erosion & Sediment Control certification)
- Position pays $18/hr., 40hr/week (early June – mid August) ((time paid for swim test and all related trainings))
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable daily transportation to office and potentially the project site(s)
- To be deemed qualified to meet company insurability standards, prospective employees must have three or more years of driving experience
