Hydroseeding Aide

Location: Liverpool, NY

Duration: 6 months

Compensation: $18.00/hr

Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time (Please note, if there is not sufficient workload during a week, you will not be asked to report to duty)

Position Overview: Onondaga County Soil & Water Conservation District is seeking a Hydroseeding Aide for the 2025 season. The start and end dates are flexible, with the position generally running from April through October. This individual will assist in hydroseeding 40-50 acres of municipal road ditches along active roads in Onondaga County. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking a 600-hour internship or practical experience in conservation. This position offers valuable networking opportunities and is an excellent addition to your resume, as the selected candidate will gain valuable hands-on experience protecting natural resources and critical watersheds in Onondaga County.

 

The selected candidate will work closely with the District’s full-time Revegetation Specialist and receive paid training and safety gear for all tasks and additional duties.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain hydroseeding equipment with the Revegetation Specialist, including: 
    • A Chevy Silverado 3500 HD dually pickup truck
    • An 800-gallon Finn T-90 II hydroseeder
  • Perform hydroseeding along municipal roadways in varying weather conditions alongside Revegetation Specialist.
  • Measure and calculate the estimated square footage of completed hydroseeding projects.
  • Load and unload materials such as seed, mulch, and erosion control supplies.
  • Hand seed and mulch in areas that cannot be reached with the hydroseeder.

 

Additional Duties (As assigned):

Conduct stormwater outfall inspections and record data. Plant trees, live stakes, and other vegetation. Hand-pull invasive water chestnuts. Assist with the installation of erosion and sediment control products. Provide general support for District conservation projects. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of safe driving experience.
  • Ability to operate, drive, and perform basic maintenance on trucks and equipment.
  • Comfortable working around heavy machinery and in variable outdoor conditions.
  • Reliable daily transportation.
  • Ability to work alone and within a team.
  • Must be able to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to measure areas using a tape measure and mobile apps, with a basic understanding of area calculations for estimating square footage.
