Safety and Health Internship - Chemical Management
Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking to hire two (2) Safety and Health Interns to provide a supporting role in updating the Chemical Management Program. Projects include chemical inventory verification, updating of max quantities of chemicals stored on site, and ensuring proper signage for storage containers and areas.
*This is a summer only internship consisting of 40 hrs/week from May 27th through August 8th or 15th depending on school schedule.
In this Internship you will gain experience in the following areas:
- Hands-on Safety work with department reps including Certified Safety Professionals
- Hands-on Industrial Hygiene work is overseen by a Certified Industrial Hygienist
- Review current Safety and Health programs against industry and regulatory standards
- Assist with engagement with employees and contractors in multiple worksites using both General Industry and Construction Safety Standards
- Assist with incident investigations identifying root causes and corrective actions under the direction of Safety Professionals
- Help support the Safety and Health Team
- Assist with Safety & Health Department Initiatives – Chemical Management
- Communication skills (written and verbal) - Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint)
- Ability to provide support and make recommendations
- Ability to function independently and as part of a team

Who You Are…Prospective interns must be in an undergraduate or graduate degree program pursuing Safety and Health Specialty or a related discipline. Preferred candidates will have completed one year of post-secondary education.

*This is an on-site, non-remote/non-telecommuting position
*Hourly rate is dependent on the year completed of academic degree, e.g., second year complete, third year complete, etc.
*Candidates MUST be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (Associates/Bachelors/Masters) and be able to provide documentation if requested. Enrollment in a certification program does not qualify.
*A valid, unrestricted driver's license is required for this position
